Danny Ward looks to be Liverpool Number one

Liverpool’s most in-form goalkeeper, doesn't even play for them!

Speaking to The Daily Mail the Welshman said ‘It is definitely an ambition of mine to be Liverpool's first-choice. I have a self-belief where I think I can play at the highest level. Ideally that's at Liverpool, that would be fantastic’

Twenty two year old Danny ward currently on loan at Scottish side Aberdeen has kept 13 clean sheets in 27 appearances this season as Aberdeen lay claim to the second best defensive league record.

Aberdeen are currently second in the Scottish premier league and a win on Wednesday night could send The Dons to top spot above giants Celtic. The Dandies finished runners up last season but are still craving the Scottish title not achieved since 1985.

The on - loan liverpool keeper is yet to play a competitive game for the Merseyside club after loan spells at Morecambe and now Aberdeen. Although he is almost certain to represent  Chris Coleman’s Wales at Euro 2016,

Liverpool’s current number one Simon Mignolet has notched up just 6 clean sheets from a total of 17 appearances conceding on average 1.12 goals per game.

Adam Bogdan, Liverpool’s back up shot stopper fairs no better despite playing just a single game this season in which he conceded 3 goals in a December defeat to Watford.

Liverpool have had a major issue with their defensive quarters over recent seasons, under Brendan Rodgers the reds conceded 218 times in just 192 matches, with the former reds boss spending over £80 million on defensive recruits.

With Liverpool now under Jurgen Klopp’s control the German will be looking to steady the ship and after dropping Mignolet for Bogdan did not solve the problem, it may fall to young Danny Ward to be the man between the sticks.

Liverpool vs FC Sion Match Preview

By Joel Lampkin

The second round of Europa League fixtures take place this week, and Liverpool face Swiss side FC Sion at home at 8:00 UK start time. The red men go into the fixture with confidence after beating Aston Villa by three goals to two on Saturday which relieves major pressure on Brendan Rodgers for his signature. Daniel Sturridge showed his quality to produce two excellent goals and showed glimpses of the type of football that helped Liverpool to their success in the 2013/2014 season.
FC Sion are struggling with form as of late and are slipping further and further from the top 3 in the Swiss league, FC Basel lead the way on 27 points almost double what FC Sion have maintained with 14 points from 10 games. FC Sion will be a relatively unknown outfit when they return to Merseyside on Thursday for the First time since 31st october 1996, where they were beaten 6-3 by Roy Evans' men.

Liverpool will be without Dejan Lovren and Sakho is expected to retain his place in the starting line up.  In the last europa league fixture Brendan Rodger's named a very young and inexperience side, he may repeat this, with Jordan Rossiter and other younger stars calling for game time.
Divock Origi may well play as a lone striker with possibly Adam Lallana in the central attacking role. Joe Gomez is expected to return to the squad with players like Alberto Moreno, Cameron Brannagan, Emre Can,  Pedro Chirivrella all expected to feature. Brendan Rodgers would be walking on thin ice and would expect heavy calls for his dismissal should Liverpool deliver anything but a win. Many fans remain unchanged with their view on the northern Irishman still claiming his time at Anfield has run its course.  Jurgen Klopps odds of becoming new Liverpool manager are at 6/4 with Sky Bet and Carlo Ancellotti remains a heavy favourite at 6/4 also with Bet Victor.

Fc Sion's previous visit to Anfield nearly nearly 20 years ago saw them go 2 goals up in quick succession before Mcmanaman gave hope to the Liverpool crowd to make it 2-1, Anfield was home to a legendary second half still fondly remembered by those who played. Bjornbye curled a free kick home to level the game at 2-2 but the ecstacic revival was short lived as FC Sion pulled ahead to make it 3-1 thanks to Chassot, who rounded Liverpool goalkeeper David James and slotted home.
John Barnes showed his still had what it took at the highest level as he back heeled the ball past Sion goalkeeper Lehman to make it 3-3 where Liverpool took emphatic control of the game, within two minutes both Fowler and McManaman combined to take the score to a thrilling 5-3 and to top everything off, Patrick Berger slotted home after being left one-on-one with the goalkeeper to make it 6-3 and cap off a memorable european night at Anfield. Liverpool however lost to PSG 5-3 in their next two fixtures on aggregate to end their European un that season.

Check out the Highlights from the historic fixture here:

Liverpool would be expected to win comfortably at Anfield but their shaky start to the season should be an indication to not take FC Sion lightly.
With a young and weakened side expected to take to the field, the senior players who will feature must step up and be a shining light as to why they deserve their place in the starting XI. As one of the most important fixtures of the season looms this Sunday at Goodison in the Merseyside derby. The current league standing see Everton above Liverpool by 4 places but still a point just separates the two clubs with 7 games played this season
*Sunday's derby will be first meeting since Steven Gerrard left Liverpool for LA Galaxy.

Brendan Rodgers, The One Page Man

Brendan Rodgers Boring-Pool

8 Points, 13th in the league table, no trophies in his four year reign, a growing sense of hatred from the fans. Yet Brendan Rodger's refuses to lie down and accept defeat, kind of admirable isn't it? Well I guess but with all this pressure placed on the northern Irishman's shoulder's you'd expect some sort of crack wouldn't you? Looking at every press conference he gives, he is nearly almost relaxed, cool, calm and collected?
This may just be my opinion but a Liverpool fan who watched that game, who feels genuine love for the club, would show more emotion, it may just be masses and masses of media training that has been cemented over his emotional well being, put I want to see some fight in the man. Remember Kenny Dalglish's interviews the man couldn't hide his anger, his sadness, his happiness, he lived the games and showed the fans when he was stressed, when he was desperate and we supported him through this. Rodger's is beginning to hide behind the catchphrase of 'character', it is beginning to destroy him and becoming a kind of irony because what we definitely do not get from the boss is character, hes a one page man, it's becoming boring, its becoming tragic.

Reflecting on the draw to Norwich...at home which is important to note, one question I would ask is related to the paragraph above, where is the fight, the passion, the heart? Its heartbreaking to see so many shadows in Liverpool shirts, I miss the Carraghers the Gerrards, the Hyypias the players that wanted to stand up and be counted the last time I seen a player that wanted to be counted was sold to Swansea, Jonjo Shelvey, always showed fight and desire and it a fan favourite under Gary Monk. Who is at fault for this though? I think its the atmosphere, the fans have pressured the owners to sack Rodger's and I think the players have an underlying feeling that its going to happen sooner rather than later, with this constant questioning it must be becoming harder and harder to
motivate the players to perform to their highest levels. The team that was laid out at Norwich was one of the strongest we have seen this season, yet we only scored 1 goal, 1 goal out of 23 shots, if this is one of our strongest line ups and we cant even beat a newly promoted team, at home, what are we playing for? This cant be a simple 'Bad day at the office' or 'It's a one off' because it happened a lot last season and it continues to happen. The only bright term of last season was the unbeaten run from the 21st of December to the 16th of March that is one of the reason's Rodger's remains in charge.

Liverpool started off well this season, 3 consecutive clean sheets, 2 wins a draw away to a strong Arsenal team that could have swung either way. However losing sorry scratch that, being decimated by West Ham, at home 3-0 is inexcusable it was like being back at Anfield last season all over again as if the new fresh air was replaced with carbon monoxide.
Then essentially rolling over to a relatively weak Manchester United team who showed continuously the weaknesses in the heart of the Liverpool defence. Pressure mounted, a 1-1 draw at Bordeaux with a very young, inexperienced Liverpool side may have relieved pressure slightly, but a 1-1 draw, with a strong squad at home to Norwich, indicates problems, big problems. Its hard to be positive at the moment for Liverpool fans, with upcoming games to Carlisle and Aston Villa both at home, they were once games you should expect to win, now they have become games that you are not confident of anymore.

From outside of Melwood and Anfield, Brendan Rodger's recently moved into his new home which he currently rents from Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard for £10,000 a month. Taking this into account it's hard to see the Northern Irishman leaving in the near future, a resignation looks well out of the picture and with one of FSG's main messages being calculating money being spent needlessly they may gamble on Rodger's for at least the rest of the season as its well documented that he has a £8.5 million release clause if he is fired, quite the insurance policy for the ex Swansea boss. Whether FSG have put all their eggs into one basket is up for debate but at the mean time the future is started to look bleak, very bleak

Looking at the statistics of some of Liverpool's greatest ever managers according the win percentage specifically, Brendan Rodger's looks as if he fits perfectly, what do you think? Leave your comments below and tell me where you think Brendan Rodger's fits in the scale of greatest Liverpool managers!

Liverpool vs Norwich City PREVIEW

Its been a while....

Liverpool take on Norwich City this Sunday with the two clubs vying for a win, to kick-start their mediocre season which has seen the two remain equal on 7 points in the premier league. On paper it may seem that Norwich may be heading to Anfield as the favourites as they have accumulated more points out of their last three games than the red men, who have managed just 1 out of 9 points thanks to a draw at Arsenal. Liverpool's last home game saw them face a humiliating defeat at the hands of West Ham who clinched all three points with a three nil win on August 29th, While Norwich won their previous fixture at home to premier league newcomers Bournemouth, with the match being away to Anfield and Liverpool becoming more and more desperate the fixture may well be a contender for match of the weekend.

Liverpool held french outfit Bordeaux to a draw on Thursday night in the Europa League in what could be a crucial point for the reds as Brendan Rodger's fielded a somewhat weak team with 10 players under the age of 24 making appearances. Adam Lallana returned to the squad and finished superbly midway through the second half, tricking his way through the Bordeaux defence with some fancy footwork along with a crowd pleasing nutmeg to which he completed his run with a well placed goal. Liverpool however conceded with ten minutes to go as substitute Jussie poked him to leave Liverpool without a win in their last four games home and away.
Frenchman Mamadou Sakho was a shining light in the Liverpool defence and many fans on Twitter were pleased to see his return to the squad, after some questionable defending from Dejan Lovren in recent weeks, Sakho was composed and offered leadership that has been missing in previous fixtures.
(It is no surprise that he was offered a a new contract which he has today signed.)  Mamadou Sakho is also rumoured to be starting on Sunday against Norwich City as Brendan Rodgers stated in his post Europa League press conference that Both Sakho and Lallana impressed and staked their claim to be brought back into the starting 11.

Recent fixtures between Norwich and Liverpool have nearly all been brought back to one man, Luis Suarez. The now Barcelona man terrorised keeper John Ruddy throughout his Liverpool career scoring 11 goals across 5 matches and one was almost on the halfway line, however the days of El pistolero are certainly over, with Liverpool now looking to rely on Christian Benteke and Danny Ings.

Benteke is yet to hit the ground running during his recent Liverpool transfer with the Belgian only managing one goal in 5 competitive games, a goal some may claim should never have stood vs Bournemouth. However looking back at the history of fixtures between the two clubs, Sunday may well be where the big man finally comes into his own as Liverpool have scored a whopping 109 goals past Norwich across 54 games with the Merseyside club winning the majority 30 out of the 50 games.

The last time Norwich beat Liverpool was over 10 years ago in 1994 with Norwich winning by just one goal thanks to Goss. This historic fixture was actually the last match to be played infront of the legendary standing Spion kop, as seats were introduced the following season thanks to the Taylor report.

Joe Allen.

Welsh Midfielder Joe Allen was one of Brendan Rodgers' first acquisitions, now three years later, many fans are wondering what he actually offers to the team. Allen signed on the backdrop of a successful performance for team GB at the Olympics where he played an effective role in guiding Team GB to the quarter finals where they were knocked out by South Korea leading fans to welcome the capture of the proclaimed 'Welsh Xavi'. The midfielder has become somewhat of a scapegoat, especially considering his £15 million move from Swansea which has seen him criticized consistently for his constant disruption of play which has led to many critics highlighting his ability in passing the ball backwards.

Joe Allen seems to be in and out of the Liverpool first team relying on more first team creative players being injured, Brazilian magician Phillipe Coutinho has excelled since his move from Inter
Milan becoming a firm fan favourite, while Joe Allen has played second fiddle to the younger star. The accusation of Adam Lallana for £25 million last summer led many to believe Joe Allen would be a major bit part player but with injuries for the englishman coupled with the wider range of fixtures Allen made 32 appearances yet tallied a rather measly 1 goal compared to his other midfield partners in the premier league.

Looking at the table its easy to see why Joe Allen has struggled to become a mainstay in the team and easy to notice how Lucas Leiva has suffered a similar fate however he can be forgiven due to Steven Gerrard occupying his favoured position and himself being a naturally defensive player. Joe Allen however seems to possess a 'blankness' about him almost as if you are unaware of his presence on the field, Joe Allen is clearly a footballer Brendan Rodgers rates highly and the Welshman has never looked likely to leave the club, but in this new era at Liverpool where sacrifices must be made (you only have to look at Rodgers' coaching staff for evidence) you have to wonder whether Liverpool would be better selling Allen, especially if they want to attract top talent. Having too many options in midfield is a nightmare every manager would like, but in this scenario Liverpool seem to possess too many midfielders that simply do not fit into the style of the team or are simply not good enough for the team.

Does Joe Allen belong at Liverpool?

Yes, he's a key player!
Yes, he's a great back up!
No, he isn't good enough!
Not Sure, depends on who we sign in the transfer window

45- The bobbly pitch does Joe Allen who is quickly chased down by Demba Ba

45- Emre Can takes it cooly past three players to win a throw in in the far right hand corner.

45- Liverpool Offside. That's the first half finished with Liverpool still leading on Aggregate.

Liverpool have looked the stronger team this half despite having less possession, the link up play of Ballotelli, Sturridge and Sterling has been magnificent and seems to suggest that it's just a matter of time before Liverpool score. The midfield has looked marvelous applying plenty of pressure, the only worry is that Ballotelli is running the risk of a second yellow card, having picked up an early one he will have to be much more careful next half.

62-The Besiktas number 7 applying lots of danger to the Liverpool back four cutting inside and unleashing an effort just over the bar

74- Ballotelli needlessly gives the ball away with a wayward pass to nobody. Ball is played forward and Besiktas continue their attack

83- Liverpool are just not physical enough in this game being out battled constantly

84- Liverpool have no urgency to play the ball forward and look for a crucial away goal. They play the ball from the back and midfield, as Heckles ring loud from the Home team

85- Lallana looking lively making a direct run and linking up with Moreno on the left side diving deep into the Besiktas half but stops the ball going out for a goalkick and puts it out for a throw in

86- Liverpool showing glimpses of their previous form, but fail to find a major way through the Besiktas defence

86- Demba Ba makes space for himself and attempts an ambitious shot from a long away out but drags it wide of the goal

87- Emre Can cleverly wins the ball back but the attack from Liverpool quickly fizzles out as Moreno misplaces a pass

95- Long bobbling shot from Besiktas goes just wide

95- Liverpool looking to maintain more possession and create more but still slightly careless in final attempts.

96- Great closing down by Besiktas forces Joe Allen to give away a throw in

96- Liverpool are lookign to attack more in this first half of extra time but are severely backing in movement. Adam Lallana the only player making himself available.

97- Goalkick to Besiktas, headed forward by Emre Can. Played out from the back by the Besiktas centre backs

98- Liverpool dealing with pressure well but still look under pressure as Demba Ba gets himself in a offside position

99- Demba Ba gets himself onside this time and forces a save from mignolet 12 yards out on the right hand side.

100- Demba taking advantage of another slip by Emre Can, plays it to the wirey number 7 who has a weak shot saved by Mignolet.

102- Besiktas give possession back to Liverpool. The crowd are still as loud as ever.

102- Emre Can booked for simulation as he goes down very easily under a weak coming together after skipping past another player.

104- Liverpool on the counter attack but make little opportunity as Sturridge is wasteful once more. Liverpool get another chance after pressure from Lallana but make little of it again

105- 1 minute added time. Liverpool just about ontop at this stage as they force Besiktas to give the ball away under pressure.

Half Time whistle- straight turn around. A Liverpool goal would mean they are effectively through as Besiktas would need two goals due to away goals. Totenham have already been eliminated as Fiorentina won 2-1 on aggregate.

105- Sturridge rightfully replaced by Rickie Lambert. Sturridge has been very poor this match.

105-Lovren dived in there on the Besiktas number 7 risking a foul in a dangerous area.

106- Strong tackle on Emre Can is cheered by the crowd.  Besiktas player offside.

107- Ball played forward to Sterling who is bumbled over and wins a free kick on the edge of the box, very good position.

109- Liverpool get the ball on the edge of the box. Lovren crosses embarrassingly far too high and wide. Goalkick for Besiktas.

110-Sterling sprinting back to his half to close down the Besiktas right back. Besiktas maintain control of possession playing it around the midfield and back four calmly.

111- The Besiktas left full back ghosts past Emre Can and Toure. Crosses the ball but Manquillo blocks well and it deflects out off Opare.

112- Kolo Toure blocks the ball from coming into the box, as they apply more pressure to Liverpool

113- Corner to Besiktas. Cleared by Liverpool who look to break with Rickie Lambert who turns back and places Lovren under pressure with a poor placed pass.

114- Liverpool severely lacking creativity as Besiktas break with Demba Ba who blazes his shot way over the cross bar.

115- Goalkick gives possession straight back to Besiktas who look extremely likely to score at the moment. Demba Ba clearly demonstrating his fitness ability tonight looking a constant threat.

116- Ball to Raheem Sterling easily picked away from him.

116- Sterling wins a free kick on the left hand side in a dangerous position. Delivery has to be better though

117-Emre Can with a very poor delivery not even beating the first man

118- Emre Can easily shouldered off the ball. a faulty error in the Besiktas area caused little danger to Liverpool who have looked nonthreatening for a majority of the night

Liverpool vs Besiktas- Match Preview

England's most successful European team Liverpool look to Thursday evening where they will face second in the Turkish Super Lig Besiktas  whose highest European achievement points to their Champions league quarter final in 1987 and UEFA league quarter final in 2003.
Liverpool hold a 1-0 lead following on from the first leg at Anfield where Mr controversy Mario Ballotelli secured the lead with a penalty in the 85th minute coming off the bench. The penalty created a small degree of anarchy for the Liverpool team with Sturridge and Henderson confronting Ballotelli who was not the designated penalty taker.  The two teams differ in form with Liverpool losing just twice in all competitions since December 2nd, while the
Turkish outfit have lost 3 of their past 6 fixtures.

Besiktas striker Demba Ba is currently the Turkish side's top scorer in European competitions with 5 goals in 5 games while Liverpool have struggled to score in European competition with Gerrard the top scorer on 2 in 6 games. However the former Chelsea man who scored the infamous goal that remains in Liverpool fans hearts as their Captain slipped may not be a worry. Twitter was a rife with rumours circulating that he has been ruled out due to a calf injury although nothing has been confirmed yet. Besiktas recent lack of form means they look likely to miss out on a 14th Turkish title to current leaders Galatasary who have overtaken Besiktas and remain at the top of the league by one point. Still compared to the Merseyside club they are fairly successful as Liverpool remain in 6th place two points away from a champions league place and 15 points off top spot.
With Besitkas without Motta and centre back Gulum, Beskitas look a troubled team. but the Attaturk where the second leg will be played has seen famous comebacks before..

Liverpool cruised past Southampton 2-0 on Sunday despite looking shaky for periods of the match,
Phillipe Coutinho again demonstrated his shooting ability after firing Liverpool ahead in the opening 5 minutes with a 30 yard strike that flew past Frazer Forster. Liverpool seemed happy to continue the rest of the game banking on the one nil lead but it become a solid strategy as defensive error by Southampton allowed for Raheem Sterling to strike home to secure the win. Liverpool look the stronger party heading into the fixture with the Merseyside club the most inform team in English football currently.
A different focus on the style of football has innovated the Liverpool team who overall look a solid formidable outfit from the back significantly down to the introduction of Emre Can to both defence and midfield as well as Mignolet looking much more assertive after his removal from the first team. Liverpool will be without Steven Gerrard who is still recovering from a hamstring injury, Henderson will remain captain. Glen Johnson and Lucas are also out with injury. Ballotelli is rumoured to be rewarded with his recent improvement with a rare start possibly partnering Daniel Sturridge which fans have been crying out for since Sturridge's return to fitness.
